NYFW: Self-Portrait

I’ve been wanting to wear a Self-Portrait dress for forever, but never really had anything to go to that warranted the brand’s beautiful dresses. So I thought NYFW was my chance.  Self-Portrait dresses are so elegant and I love the intricate details that the brand is so well-known for.

This dress with the hexagon cutouts and deep red and purple hues is perfect for the Fall.  My favorite parts are the high neck and tiered skirt!  Also, length fell just perfectly a couple inches above the knee to still be classy.

I talked about my highlights of NYFW earlier this week {see it here}, so I should also tell you what I learned, or really what I would do better next time around.

Bring a photographer / husband / friend – Although there was always I knew people around me, it was a bit harder to capture photos on the go.  I hate to be that annoying person constantly asking to stop for a million iPhone photos or shots of me crossing the street…again! 🙂  I had a few photo sessions booked with amazing photographers but its simply not the same as having somebody with you to capture the immediate, less styled moments.  Believe me…there would have been many more photos shared if I had my own personal friend/photog/Insta Husband with me. Most of the times, I tried to be present without always staring and snapping on my phone (I know, so unlike a blogger!).  But I wanted to really experience Fashion Week and take it all in.

Stay middle of the week – I arrived on the first day of NYFW.  Since many invitations are sent a bit last minute (usually a week or a few days before the start of the week), it was hard to plan travel days.  I booked the first 4 days of FW just so I could be gone less during the week (Thu-Sun).  But…next time around I would likely stay toward the middle of Fashion Week.  Seems like more of the good shows and events (at least the ones I was invited to) happen the last couple days I was there and after I had already left.  So lesson learned.  I need to be more flexible or stay longer.  🙂

Never make back-to-back appointments – I had a hard time keeping appointments or being on time. I jammed packed my schedule with shows, meetings and events, but I missed so many of them.  I missed 3 shows,  and 2 meetings.  Things I unfortunately couldn’t reschedule.  Also, who knew it was take 45 mins in an Uber to get 5 miles!!!!  I definitely not plan for commute time to get place to place.  Again, lesson learned!

Last thing….just a tip for anyone in the market for a SP dress…the sizing though is a bit off (I’m usually a 0/2 and I’m currently wearing size 6).
