Sirmione // Lake Garda

After Milan, we headed to the Lake district of Northern Italy.  I had originally planned for Lake Como.  I’ve always wanted to go there, but when I started the research for resorts, I realized about 99% of the good hotels were closed. We’d miss the season by a week!  But I knew if Lake Como didn’t work, I had Lake Garda as a backup. While a lot of resorts were closed for the season there too, there were definitely a lot more available.  Lake Garda is the biggest lake in Italy and it is also touted as the most family-friend area of the lakes.

Since this was going to be the most relaxing, do-nothing, and long portion (in one spot) part of our trip, we definitely wanted a destination and location that was not only beautiful, but have the amenities the would suit our needs.  We chose the Lefay Resort & Spa and loved every minute it of it.  We swam, ate, walked around the grounds and indulged in the beautiful spa.  It was pretty amazing!  We were there during our birthdays and hotel left us such sweet birthday gifts.  Even a cute teddy bear for Jaxson.  I just love a hotel that treat you like royalty and makes you feel at home.

One of the days, we decided to venture off to one of the small towns around the Lake (there are several beautiful villages) and Sirmione came highly recommended.  Apparently elite and affluent Romans used to vacation in Sirimione.  It is such a a picturesque Medieval town centred around the Castello Scalier, the castle.  We didn’t actually tour the castle since it involved a lot of steps and no strollers allowed.  So we opted to find a spot for lunch and enjoy walk around. You can loose yourself in the narrow cobblestone streets and indulge in the many restaurants, bars and gelato buffets!  There were so many birds and swans just hanging out near the beach there which was a dream for Jaxson.

Definitely a must see if you’re in the Lake Garda area.
